Ulysse Nardin Freak Carrousel Tourbillon Ref 016-88 Full Set

$31,750.00

Created by Dr. Ludwig Oeschslin, the “Freak” is truly the only appropriate name for such a watch. Let’s just run through some of the specs. It’s a 7-day Tourbillon with carrousel regulation, it does not have hands… or a dial…. or a crown. The dual direct escapement does not require lubrication due to its innovative low friction design, and you wind it by turning the caseback, and set it turning the bezel. The movement serves as the hour and minute hands, rotating around the dial on a sophisticated outer gear track.

Beyond the specs, the watch is absolutely mesmerizing, particularly the ‘dial’ with so much depth and complexity all laid out in an unbelievably clean manner.

Case: The 42.5mm case is very sharp, believed to be unpolished with all facets and hallmarks very sharp and well defined. The yellow gold has a real richness and warmth, more akin to many manufacturer’s rose gold. The downturned lugs and lack of crown make the watch very wearable.

Dial: The deep blue transparent dial is a mesmerizing backdrop to the exposed dual escapement mechanism and black polished applied numerals. The gold signature floats on the dial as it rotates around, it’s truly something to witness in person.

Movement: The UN200 caliber watch is winding, setting, and running smoothly, at approximately +7 s/d.

Includes: Wooden display box with drawer containing the original booklets, undated card, original hang tag, signed strap, that is slightly delaminating at the curved end, and original signed buckle.
